Our Story

CatSam began the way the best things do — with love, curiosity, and very little plan.

In 2013, Caterina and Sam met in Goa, India. Both had already been on the road for over a year — she following her own path, he following his — when their journeys converged on that particular stretch of Indian coastline. They found each other, and then they found a shared problem: how do you keep travelling together when the money runs out?

The answer came naturally. Goa was alive with craft, with artisans, with jewelry that told stories of hands and tradition. Inspired by what surrounded them, they began to learn. Their first real teacher was a master goldsmith from the Soni caste in Rajasthan — a woman whose knowledge ran generations deep. She gave them the foundation. Everything since has been built on it.

From Rajasthan they kept moving and kept learning. Traditional wire wrapping techniques from Latin America. Soldering methods passed down through Indian workshops. Handmade casting learned from respected artisans across continents. Each place left something in the work — northern California, music festivals across Germany and Eastern Europe, the markets of Southeast and South Asia, the medinas of North Africa, the highlands of South America.

CatSam is not a brand that was designed in an office. It was shaped by roads, by teachers, by the people who welcomed two travelling jewellers into their craft and shared what they knew.

Today CatSam is based in Germany, but Caterina and Sam never stopped moving. Over the years they also became a family — two beautiful children now travel alongside them, growing up between cultures, languages and craft. The road is still their studio, their inspiration, and their way of life — and every new place finds its way into the work.
